CPD Requirements for Licensee Class 1, Licenced Agents Class 2 and Assistant Agents Class 3

CPD Training - Licence Holders

All individuals who hold a class 1 property agent's licence, class 2 property agent's licence or a certificate of registration, as a class 3 assistant agent must complete the CPD specified for their licence or certificate category each year.

Failure to comply with your CPD requirements may result in the suspension or cancellation of your licence or certificate.

The CPD year for all licence and certificate holders starts on 1 July each year and ends on 30 June the following year. 

Your CPD activities will depend on the level and type of licence you hold.

Class 1 Agent – Real Estate or Strata Management or dual licence holders

A Class 1 Agent in Real Estate or Strata Management must complete 5 hours of compulsory face-to-face or online interactive CPD each year.

If you hold a class 1 licence for both real estate and strata, or real estate and stock and station, you will be required to undertake:

  • compulsory CPD for strata and compulsory CPD for real estate (compulsory CPD hours need only be completed once, and completion will count towards your compulsory hours for both licence categories),

For example, an agent completes the compulsory CPD topic about supervisor’s obligations. The topic is applicable to both licence categories – strata and real estate. The agent only needs to complete the topic once and it is counted towards both licence categories (one hour for real estate and one hour for strata).

Class 1 Agent – Stock and Station

A Class 1 Agent in Stock and Station must complete compulsory face-to-face or online interactive CPD each year.

Class 2 Agent – Real Estate or Strata Management or dual licence holders

A Class 2 Agent in Real Estate or Strata Management must complete 5 hours of compulsory face-to-face or online interactive CPD each year.

If you hold a class 2 licence for both strata and real estate, or real estate and stock and station, you are required to complete additional compulsory CPD hours:

  • compulsory CPD for real estate and compulsory CPD for strata (compulsory CPD hours only must be completed once and completion will count towards your compulsory hours for both licence categories)

For example, an agent completes the compulsory CPD topic about supervisor’s obligations. The topic is applicable to both licence categories – strata and real estate. Class 2 Agent – Stock and Station

LEARNING STRATEGY

All resource guides and assessment practicums are supplied in both hard copy and digital formats for your convenience.

The resource guide is used to develop a sound knowledge base of the topic.

To successfully complete the necessary hours of training, you will be required to complete a range of assessment tasks to demonstrate your knowledge, skills and understanding of each subject.

OUTCOME

Any agent who successfully completes the course topics will be issued with a written notice, demonstrating completion of the compulsory topics including their personal details and information about the training undertaken.

COST

Class 1 and Class 2 - 5 hours face to face only $350.00

Assistant Agent – Real Estate

Certificate of registration holders as an assistant real estate agent must complete at least 3 units each CPD year from a valid Certificate IV qualification that is required for the issue of a Class 2 Agent licence in Real Estate (with or without restrictions).

The units of competency are based on the nationally endorsed CPP Property Services Training Package for the real estate industry sector, and is for people/learners who want to acquire the skills needed to sell, market, lease and manage real estate/property within a property agency at level 4.

To be eligible to apply for the relevant class 2 licence, assistant agents would also need to satisfactorily complete the CLASS 2 WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS during a 12 month period, and satisfactorily completed the Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice.

Note: If an individual applies for a Class 2 Agent licence using the OLD SUPERSEDED QUALIFICATION CPP40307 - CERTIFICATE IV IN PROPERTY SERVICES (REAL ESTATE).

  • at least one unit of the qualification must have been completed prior to the commencement of the reforms, and
  • they will receive a conditional licence that is subject to a restriction condition.

For example: Class 2 Real Estate Agent conditioned to undertake sales and leasing or on-site residential property management only.

9am – 5pm (Face to Face) and up to 4 months by correspondence.

OUTCOME

Any agent who successfully completes these units will be issued with a statement of attainment and transcript, demonstrating the number of units completed.

CPD RECORDS

Licence and certificate holders must retain their own records of any compulsory topics completed.

Certificate of registration holders must retain the statement of attainment issued for each unit completed from the relevant Certificate IV for their area of practice.

Licence holders (class 1 and class 2) must retain all records for 3 years.

Certificate of registration holders must retain all records for 4 years.

Licence and certificate holders will also be required to provide evidence to Fair Trading that they have completed the required CPD topics.

TRAINING PLAN

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO CONSIDER

Licence or certificate of registration holders who have:

  • applied and received a licence or certificate of registration or,
  • restored or reactivated a licence or certificate of registration that has been expired since the commencement of the allocated CPD period,

are not required to undertake CPD if that licence or certificate of registration commenced less than 90 days or within 3 months of the expiry of the allocated CPD period (i.e. 2 April to 30 June).

This exemption is applied automatically, holders are not required to apply for the exemption.

Note: This exemption does not apply to a licence or certificate of registration that is recommenced following a period of suspension or cancellation where a condition has been applied under the Act requiring the holder to complete specified CPD.

A person issued with a certificate of registration, that commences within 9 months of the expiry of the CPD period;

is required to complete a minimum of one unit of competency from that year, from a valid Certificate IV qualification that is required for the issue of a Class 2 Agent licence.

A person issued with a licence, that commences within 9 months of the expiry of the CPD period;

is required to complete the compulsory topics and (if applicable) elective topics for the current CPD period.
